HGU-48/P Flight Helmet - Late 1980's
This HGU-48/P was worn by an A-10 Warthog pilot and is equipped with a special Night Vision Goggle (NVG) attachment system. The helmet is custom painted camouflage and has black dyed leather. During the day, the pilot would wear the dark visor. At night, the visor would be removed and the NVG bracket would be attached via a cam and buckle system. The mounts are left on the helmet at all times and can be seen in the top center photo. The NVG mount has its own power supply and is very light.
