AFH-1 Helicopter Helmet - Late 1960s-1970s
The US Army AFH-1 was the first "ballistic" helmet of its type. The shell is made of phenol formaldehyde and polyvinyl butyryl resin with a nylon ballistic cloth. The AFH-1 was used in helicopters and reconnaissance aircraft and only came in olive drab. It used a standard boom mike with a coiled down-lead. The unit in the pictures is new out of the box, so the boom mike is wrapped and no fitting pads are installed.
